TEHRAN -- Tehran Mayor Mohammad-Baqer Qalibaf said on Tuesday that the heavy traffic is the main problem that the Tehrani citizens are concerned about.

“A proper management system is required to solve the problem of traffic but I clearly announce that the Tehran municipality is not responsible for managing the problem,” he told Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting.

“In our opinion, a city is a place where people live not a place where cars parade,” Qalibaf observed.

He noted that joint efforts are required by the people, the police and the municipality to solve the problem. One of the main problems of megalopolises like Tehran is the issue of dilapidated buildings and structures, he said. The mayor added that efforts should be made “to heal this old wound on the body of the city.”
